EmpowerWord Installation and Repair Errors FAQ

Errors during Installation

Q: I have a .NET error during installation. What should I do?

A: EmpowerWord requires a .NET Framework 2.0 to be installed on your PC. You can download the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 from Microsoft website            ( http://www.microsoft.com/ ).

Warning: Microsoft .NET 2.0 packages are different for x64 and x86 platforms.

Q: I have a Microsoft Word error. What should I do?

A: EmpowerWord is an add-on for Microsoft Word and requires Microsoft Word XP (2002), 2003 or 2007 in order to function correctly.  You will need to install Microsoft Word before installing EmpowerWord.  Once Microsoft Word is installed, please run the EmpowerWord installation again

A: Only a user with Administrative privileges can install or repair EmpowerWord.

If you have  Windows Vista with User Account Control turned OFF or Windows XP on your PC – login as a user with Administrative privileges and try to install EmpowerWord again.

A: Make sure drive with the name you’ve typed exists in your operation system and this is a local drive, not CD or DVD drive.

Q: I cannot install EmpowerWord to the folder I’ve selected, message about insufficient privileges appears.  But I am an Administrator! What is wrong?

A: Make sure folder you’ve selected is not locked for writing and user you are logged in has full control permissions for this folder.

Q: I cannot install EmpowerWord to the folder I’ve set, message about invalid character appears. What is wrong?

A: A folder in Windows cannot contain symbols like *,?,<,>,|, /. Do not use such symbols in the folder name.

Q: The folder name and local drive are correct, but Out of Disk Space page is shown. What is wrong?

A: EmpowerWord must have a small amount of disk space to run correctly.  Either free up additional space by deleting some unused files on your computer, or switch to another hard drive if you have one.

Q: I get a message about another EmpowerWord version blocking the installation. What should I do?

A: This message appears when you are trying to install an older version of EmpowerWord. If you really want to downgrade your version of EmpowerWord, you need to delete a more recent version first and then install the older one.

Q: EmpowerWord add-in is installed successfully, but it does not work in Microsoft Word.

A: Please ensure that you have either Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Vista installed on your computer.  If you do, ensure that the EmpowerWord add-on is turned on in your Microsoft Word add-ons list.

Errors during Repair

Q: I cannot repair EmpowerWord! Help!

A: See the possible error in the EmpowerWord Installation section.

Q: I cannot repair EmpowerWord add-in, but there is no such error in the Installation FAQ! I have a message about network error.

A: You’ve probably installed EmpowerWord by clicking the “Run” command after downloading it from the website, and you’re trying to repair it.  Please uninstall your current version of EmpowerWord and re-install it, this time clicking Save or Save As instead of Run from the dialog prompt.
